Project Nr. 2018-1-LV01-KA202-046990

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Project “Millennials and Post-Millennials: Challenges and Opportunities for Teachers and Employers” is being realized to improve the dialogue among Millennials and Post-Millennials, teachers and employers. For a longer time teachers, employers and other parties have been discussing the problem of the differences between Millennials, Post-Millennials and the previous generations. Briefly, it could be said that these are generations whose values, needs, desires and interests differ from those of the previous generations. A recent statistics on the composition of teachers in the participating schools show that the average age of educators is between 40 and 60. It is the X generation, which is very different from the Millennials and Post-Millennials. The X generation are very good performers, people born under rather stable conditions, who have not experienced big changes. Some teachers prefer teaching memorization in preparation for standardized tests and  special tasks for extraordinary occasions,  but digital learners prefer learning what is relevant, active, fun and learning “just in time”, instantly useful. Usually Millennials and Post-Millennials are inquisitive and use mobile phones or other smart devices around 5 hours per day.

For the education system it is not easy to adapt rapidly to the changes in the national economy, the increased flow of information, new technologies, etc. The Millennials and Post-Millennials need the same interaction and speed as they are used to in the internet environment to receive information as fast from multiple multimedia sources. The biggest problem is not that students are not interested to learn, thus they need  other methods to learn in much different ways.

After the discussions and previously conducted surveys of the teachers in all 4 partner schools, we have found following needs: 1) create new teaching methods, education tools for teachers to help the Millennials and Post-Millennials acquiring knowledge. Once the needs of this group of learners are recognized, the best teaching methods can be developed to make these students successful learners. 2) Training teachers in working with this generation to develop understanding and dialog between parties;    3) create research which include answers on questions: how they want to learn and to inquire experts about the psychological recommendations on the preferred principles for working with this generation.
